Town centre planters enjoy spring makeover

201505 plantersTransition Chepstow oversee seven planters in the town, all designed to help pollinators and promote ‘growing your own’. Look out for the new plants and more colourful signage. If you see some of the veg or fruit is ready, why not try some? And if you’d like to help with future upkeep of the planters please contact us via food@transitionchepstow.org.uk.

Hanley Landshare gets growing!

The 2015 growing season has started at our Landshare project next to Hanley Farm Shop. So far we’ve planted lettuce, potatoes, cauliflower, onions, spinach, carrots, peas, broad beans, beetroot and parsnips. New arrivals for this season are the globe artichokes which should taste and look wonderful! It’s not too late to get involved with the project. If you’d like to visit the site, we have an open day on Sunday 31st May (10am-12pm). More details can be found on our website or by contacting us at food@transitionchepstow.org.uk.

Garden wildlife project

SolitarybeeGardens are hugely important in supporting some of our wildlife, so this year we’ll be starting a new project for garden wildlife enthusiasts. The project will support both those who are already making progress with providing food sources and habitats in their gardens, and those who are just starting out. The idea is to share information and advice and to help us all enjoy our garden residents and visitors, large and small.
If you are interested in taking part in this project, please get in touch with Rose at wildlifeintransition@transitionchepstow.org.
Complete beginners or experienced gardeners are all equally welcome to join in!

Health & Consciousness

The recent Think with a drink pub forum meeting was held at the customary venue of the Coach & Horses Inn, on Thursday 23 April 2015. The topic, Democracy in Crisis: Principles of Good Governance, was introduced by Professor John Clarke, organizer of the Tintern Philosophy Circle. The issue prompted a wide ranging and stimulating discussion among participants about the forthcoming general election and the current state of voter attitudes.
To find out about future meetings you can follow our events page.

Local Transition groups meet up

In March, about 100 local transition group members gathered at Bristol’s Trinity Centre to share experiences and take part in a range of workshops. The event was rounded off by a talk from Transition Towns co-founder, Rob Hopkins. His write up of the event can be found on the Transition Network website. Can you spot our members in the event photos? If you would like to take part in a future networking event, head along in September to the International Transition Conference.

Severndale community wind turbine planning application

dandelionA community wind turbine is proposed on the same farm as Transition Chepstow’s Landshare project and would follow a similar model to the St Briavels and forthcoming Alvington Court community projects. St Briavels benefits from approximately £15k per annum from the St Briavels community turbine.
The planning application for the proposed Severndale wind turbine can be found on the Forest of Dean District Council website and consultation ends on 18th May 2015:

“Opportunities for community investment (in place of traditional bank finance) will be explored and the project will directly share the financial benefits with the community investors and additionally through a generous community donation.”
