Give it Away Take it Away is an event held by Transition Chepstow to help people swap and reuse items to avoid them ending up in landfill.
Most of us have heard of the three ‘R’s of waste – Reduce, Reuse, Recycle – but we tend to focus on recycling and forget about reuse. This event is an opportunity for people to give away things that they no longer use but which someone else might welcome, and to pick up any items they might make use of.
Goods left over at the end of the event are usually given to charity.

Thanks to all who came along to help or to participate in our last event on 2nd June. It was a success in spite of the bad weather. Our thanks to Monmouthshire Upcycle for providing the brilliant venue that worked well for us and created a convivial atmosphere.
Give it Away, Take it Away 2014
Transition Chepstow held another of their popular Give it Away – Take it Away reuse events on the 21st of June 2014 at Chepstow Rugby Club in the Thornwell area of Chepstow. People brought along unwanted, yet still useful, items and materials to the Rugby Club and took away any items / materials they could make use of.
The aim of the day was to reuse goods rather than throwing them away and filling up landfill sites. Most of us have heard of the three ‘R’s of waste – Reduce, Re-use, Recycle – but we tend to focus on recycling and forget about re-use. The event was an opportunity for people to put to good use things that were cluttering up their garages and lofts – things they no longer had a use for but which someone else might welcome.
The event ran from 10am to 3pm, although the last time for dropping off items was 2:00. Donors did not need to remain with their items as Transition Chepstow provided marshals. Anything taken away was at your own risk, and there was no guarantee that items were in working order. Goods left over at the end of the event were offered to the charity Tools for Self-Reliance and the remainder was taken by the furniture reuse charity, Homemakers Community Recycling.
Household, DIY and electrical goods and toys were in demand. Livestock, hazardous goods and rubbish are the only items not accepted. No money changed hands; the event enabled people to pass on unwanted goods to those who can make use of them free of charge.
The event attracted over a hundred people. For more information email: recycling@transitionchepstow.org.uk
Transition Chepstow are grateful for the support of Chepstow Rugby Club and Monmouthshire County Council with organising this event.
